Choki MotobuAs Choki said in his book, Karate was in secret in Okinawa [Ryukyu] at that time. Only the first-born son of royal, aristocrats and warriors could know about it. Choki was third-born son and he couldn’t practice his family Karate under his father, Anji Choshi Motobu. However, when he was 11 and discovered that his eldest brother, Choyu Motobu was learning Karate under their father. He convinced his family to let him practice Karate and finally, he started practicing Karate under Anko Itosu, master of Syuri Te. Choki was blessed to be talented for Karate. He dedicated himself in practicing and was flowered his talent rapidly. He also asked other Karate masters such as Kosan Matsumora and Sokon Matsumura to train him. He was in untraditional circumstance and that made him much freely to learn Karate not only one method but many others. Thanks to this, he found his own Karate method.

His passion to Karate knew no limits and he fought against with people who he met at Tsuji-machi where many young in their prime tried to fight against each other. This reckless behavior of him kept him at a distance from other Karate-ka. However, what an irony! His reckless behavior made him fight against with Russian guy who was the best martial artist at the time in Kyoto in 1922 and he won the match! This astonishing match was attracted attention by a magazine titled King and after his victory, many Japanese interested in Karate.

Choki Motobu, one of the best Karate master has thousands of episode and no one could be more familiar than him as a Karate-ka.
