"Bassai" has a characteristic of concerned basic skills and influenced by Shuri-te. "Matsumurabassai" was originally improved by Shorin School founder Soukun Matsumura. The characteristics of "matsumurabassai" concentrate on offensive and defensive sequence, being dynamic which involves hard, soft, and speedy actions, with an emphasis on movements being smooth and continuous.
