Monument in Honor of the Five Heroes of Hisamatsu In 1905,
local islanders off Ishigaki Island discovered Russian fleets heading
for Japan. Five of them went to Ishigaki Island to send a telegram to
authorities informing the latter about the incident. The monument-a statue
of five posts sustaining a small boat-was built in recognition of these
five islanders' courage and sense of nationalism.
