It is estimated that the Ungusuku-utaki worship site was established around 450 years ago. Local people believe that this worship site is helping to protect the island preserve its natural environment. A colony of Fukugi and Inumaki as well as other trees surrounds and protects the holy site giving the area both privacy and solemnity.
